Mothman

Sightings

The first Mothman sightings were on the night of November 15th, 1966, made by Roger and Linda Scarberry, as well as Steve and Mary Mallette. In the following days, various other sightings occured. Mothman was also reportedly seen by Newell Partridge, a local contractor. It was also seen by 5 grave diggers who had looked up after hearing rustling in the trees. 2 volunteer firemen also claimed to have seen it and described it as a "large bird with red eyes". There were over 100 reports of Mothman sightings in the time between November 15th, 1966 and December 16th, 1967. The most famous sighting of Mothman was on the Silver Bridge 85 miles from Point Pleasant. Every witness described the same characteristics of it having bat-like wings and hypnotic red glowing eyes. It is said that Mothman sat atop the bridge shortly before it collapsed, with the creature being a bad omen for what was to come. There are also various unrelated claims of sightings, such as a claim that this creature was present in Cherynobyl and Pripyat mere days before the meltdown of the infamous Chernobyl nuclear reactor. There have also been claims that a creature with a similar discription to Mothman, known as the "Man Dragon", was present shortly before the Xiaon Te Dam collapsed in Southeast China, an event that caused a flood that killed 15,000 people in January of 1926. There were also limited claims of the creature being present shortly before 9/11, as well as the Tsunami in Japan in March of 2011. No claim is fully verified, but regardless, Mothman makes for an interesting piece of historic folklore.
